1) What are Soft Claws®?
Soft Claws are an excellent alternative to declawing. They are easy to apply at home and cats and their owners love them. They are completely safe and humane and can be used on cats of all ages. Soft Claws are vinyl nail caps that are glued on to your cat's existing nails. They look like a cat's nail, only hollow. They are easy to apply and cats tolerate them extremely well.
I just wanted to thank you for selling such a fabulous product. When my husband told me about Soft Claws I was skeptical. I thought, if these work so great why have I never heard of them? Luckily, they are extremely affordable so we decided to give them a shot. We have three cats who love to claw furniture, radio speakers, carpet, etc. They were very easy to apply and the cats were used to them within only a couple of minutes!!! This product is a MIRACLE and I am not saying that lightly! We can now keep all the doors in our home open and live like normal people. My cats are fine with Soft Claws on; they still behave the same way they ordinarily would. This is a perfect solution to saving your furniture and/or having your animal declawed. I LOVE THIS PRODUCT!! Again, I can't stress enough how easy these are to apply and how the cats don't even notice they are on. I can't praise them enough! Mandy Randolph 2) How are Soft Claws applied? Soft Claws are easy to apply. Simply fill the nail cap with the adhesive provided and slide it on over your cat's claw. The glue dries very fast. I just received my order of Soft Claws for my 16 year old cat and they are wonderful. Very simple to apply and so far she has not lost one. Audrey Rossi 3) How long do they last and how often do they need to be reapplied? Once the nail caps are applied they remain in place for approximately 4-6 weeks. They will fall off with the natural growth of your cat's nails. We recommend that you check your cat's nails periodically because usually just one or two fall off at a time and these can be easily reapplied. Each kit contains 40 nail caps and will last approximately 4-6 months per cat. Note: While the vast majority of cats acclimate to the claw covers within minutes, some cats may require an adjustment period. Cat's fastidious natures sometimes causes them to groom the claw covers excessively at first. This may result in one or two falling off. No problem. Just check the claws daily at first and if one is missing, simply replace it with another from the package. Thus, the first package may not last as long as subsequent packages. Again, most cats do not even notice they are wearing them after the first 30 minutes. A good tip is to feed your cat his or her favorite food after applying the Soft Claws. This serves as a good reward and also diverts their attention away from their new acquisition. Some people find it easier to apply the Soft Claws when their cats are sleepy. I just placed my second order of Soft Claws. These are absolutely wonderful. Travis, my black Persian, thinks he looks sooooo cool with his red toes and had no problem adapting to them. I found that playing with a string after putting them on gets him used to them very quickly. I'm recommending Soft Claws to all my cat lover friends for all their furred children. Next time ole Travis will be sporting the shocking pink ones hahaha. Thanks so much, 4) How much does a kit cost? What is contained in a kit? Each kit costs $18.95 and contains everything needed for home application. Easy to follow application instructions, 40 nail caps, 2 tubes of glue and applicator tips. Shipping and handling is $3.99. You can buy up to 3 packages for the $3.99 shipping and handling fee. 5) Are Soft Claws safe and do they hurt the cat? Soft Claws are completely safe, painless and non-toxic. Even if they are swallowed, no problem will result. They just pass on through the digestive system. The glue is harmless as well. I am simply amazed at how well the Soft Claws are working and especially that my cat does not even mind them on his nails! He’s a regular little tomcat and still plays catch with rolled up paper and everything the same as before I applied the Soft Claws. Thanks!!! Duane Tash 6) Can cats still extend and retract their claws with the Soft Claws? Absolutely. Soft Claws are designed not to interfere with the normal extension and retraction of claws. 7) Will Soft Claws interfere with my cat's normal scratching and stretching behavior? No. Your cat can still stretch and make scratching motions but no damage will occur to your furniture because the claw is effectively covered and protected. 8) Can I apply Soft Claws myself? Absolutely. Most people apply the nail caps themselves. Some enlist the help of a friend or family member. This is a good idea at first if you are not used to handling your cat alone. If you can trim your cat's claws, you can apply the nail caps. If you have any questions, you can Email Us or call us at 1-800-989-2542. Ten o’clock last night I had my husband help me put them on, and both my cat and my husband FELL ASLEEP while I was putting them on!!! My cat does NOT like to have his nails cut, so I thought putting these on would be a pain, but he was so relaxed that he dozed off. When he woke up, he never even knew they were on!! He still doesn’t this morning, and he was even scratching his post. I love this product, and want to say than you, I will definitely tell everyone about Soft Claws!!! Thanks again!!!! Cassie Thor & "Nikko" 9) How do I know what size my cat needs? Please visit our size chart. You can use this to determine what size your cat will use. Soft Claws come in the following sizes: Kitten, small medium and large. Most average size cats wear medium. If your cat is very small boned, choose the small size. Very large boned cats tend towards large. Kittens usually are big enough to wear Soft Claws by 12-16 weeks of age. Note: If your cat is overweight, this does not necessarily mean it is a large cat. To determine claw size, examine your cat's paws. GuidelinesKitten Soft Claws will fit most kittens by the time they reach the age of 16 weeks (4 months). Some kittens can wear them as early as age 12 weeks (3 months). To test, try a nail cap on first without the adhesive. If it looks too big, don’t glue it on. The nail cap should fit snugly, like a glove. Kittens up to about 5 pounds generally fit the kitten size. Kittens up to about 5 months generally fit the kitten size.
Small Some kittens at 5 months may need the small size if they are growing fast or are large-breed cats. Small-boned adult cats often wear the small size. If your cat seems smaller than an average full-grown cat, choose small.
Medium
Large If you have any question, please Email Us or call us 1-800-989-2542. 10) What if I select the wrong size? No problem. When you receive your package, first take one of the nail caps out and try it on your cat's claws without the glue. It should fit like a glove. If it is the wrong size you may send it back and we will exchange it for another size. Do not open the glue and make sure all components are present for return. Be sure to send it in a padded mailer so it remains in new condition. 11) What about the different colors? Soft Claws come in the following colors: Clear, blue, purple, red and pink. Kitten size is only available in clear. I just wanted to tell you how happy I am with this product. We are "owned" by seven of the sweetest cats on the planet - four of them we've had for years and had them declawed when we first got them as that was the 'thing to do' at the time. Since then, we've learned what a cruel act declawing is, and when we adopted the last three over the past 4 months, we looked at Soft Claws as an alternative. It has been absolutely fantastic! We were taking the cats to the vet to have them applied but thought I'd try it myself and ordered a kit. The application was much easier than I expected and my three new kitties are now all running around with hot-pink toes! (I've found that the hot-pink ones make it easy to see when a cat has lost a tip.) My declawed cats are safe from accidental injury when they play with the cats who still have their claws, and my house is safe from anyone who thinks that the furniture is a good place to sharpen! I am so pleased with this product and will continue to order it.This is the best pet product to come along in ages and I have been telling all of my cat-owning friends that this is something they should try. Regards, 12) Can cats get infections from these like humans can get from acrylic nails? No. Cat's claws are completely different from human nails. Cats shed the outer sheaths of their claws periodically. You have probably seen this around their scratching post (or couch). The same happens when they are wearing Soft Claws. The nail cap comes off with the normal shedding of the outer nail sheath. This prevents the possibility of infection. 13) Can Soft Claws be used on back claws? Yes. Although most people apply Soft Claws only to the front paws, they can also be used on the back if desired. Applying Soft Claws to the hind claws will help prevent damage from cats jumping on and off furniture. Also, many people have used Soft Claws on the hind claws of cats who have skin problems and scratch excessively. The nail caps help prevent self-inflicted damage from scratching. My cat has Soft Claws on its hindlegs for a week now, not because he destroys my furniture, but because he has been scratching himself in the neck for a couple of years now. In the Netherlands, declawing is absolutely not-done, so, to prevent him from scratching himself (and he scratches himself really bad due to an undefined allergy!) he has been wearing a plastic cap around his neck (you know, the funnel-shaped ones) for over two years. When I visited the vet a couple of weeks ago, she had just been to the US, and heard of Soft Claws there. She immediately ordered them and applied them to my cat. Even though he's got them for just a week now, I am very happy with it, he can't make a bloody mess of his neck anymore (literally). So Soft Claws can do more than save furniture, they can improve the quality of life for cats with skin problems as well!.
Kind regards 14) Should Soft Claws only be used on indoor cats? Yes. Soft Claws should only be used on indoor cats because they will blunt the cat's defenses. Cats who go outdoors should not wear Soft Claws. 15) What should I do if the Soft Claws stay on longer than six weeks? Normally the nail caps will fall off with the natural growth of the cat's nails. But, some cats (actually very few) don't shed their nails as rapidly as other cats and the nail caps don't fall off on their own. If this occurs, all that needs to be done is to trim the very tip of the nail cap. This will help break the adhesive seal and the nail caps should fall off. Please note: It is important to periodically check your cat's nails, i.e. once weekly, to ensure none of the nails have gown too long. Since cats' nails grow in a curved manner, if they grow too long, they will start to curl under the paw pad. If you notice the nail is too long, just trim the tip of the nail cap to remove. To read some comments from people using Soft Claws, please visit our testimonials page. I just received my Soft Claws order this past Thursday and my husband and I gave our cat his new "manicure" on Friday. I was apprehensive about how he'd adjust to them and if they would be effective. I am very happy to report that the Soft Claws were: 1. Very easy to apply, 2. Tolerated very well by Riley the cat (after some initial licking and paw shaking, he has totally ignored them and they have all remained securely intact), and 3. Effective in eliminating Riley's shredding of the carpet!I just placed a second order of the Soft Claws for a friend of mine. She was considering declawing one of her cats. She called her vet who recommended Soft Claws after telling her that she did not offer declawing to her clients and discouraged the practice as cruel and inhumane. It was coincidental that I had just ordered mine the day before and after seeing how well they worked, my friend asked me to order her a set as well. I am sure that she will be as happy a customer as I am. I want to thank you for offering this product. I did some research about declawing when Riley began causing more and more damage, and was disgusted when I read the details regarding the procedure. I am so happy that a humane alternative exists. Feel free to use my comments as another happy customer testimonial! Thanks again. Sincerely, 19) What if the FAQs above don't answer my question? Just Ask Us!
